What I'm Listening To with.... Heavy on the Heart

Hailing from Long Island, NY, Heavy on the Heart have recently released their new single 'Mr Know It All'.

The track is a personal account of a bad experience Nikki had where she dated a man who was also dating 4 other Nicoles. It was inspired by the events that unfolded throughout that whole relationship.

We caught up with Nikki and Costas for a chat about all things music!

Thanks for joining us today.!

What was the last song you listened to?

Costas: Just Right by Grayscale

NikkI: Baby shark lol (mom life! Woohoooo)

Do you listen to your own songs when you’re driving or working out?

Costas: I listen to my own music while driving for sure. I truly believe how can you expect anybody to listen to your music if you can’t listen to your music. Sometimes I listen to see if there’s anything I would have done differently, sometimes I listen just to appreciate it, other times I listen to take notes and other times it’s to expand on what’s already there.

Nikki: while I’m driving if our songs happen to come on I jam out!

You’re in a club or venue and one of your tracks comes on what do you do?

Costas: Probably shed a tear and appreciate the moment.

Nikki: well the one time this did happen to me I cried, danced and grabbed a mic and sang haha

What were you listening to when you were 13?

Costas: Blink-182, Green Day, Slipknot, Korn, Sum 31, Against Me!,The Offspring, Eminem, Nas

Nikki: Green Day, blink-182, Rob Base, Eminem, lil Wayne, John mellencamp, Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Ciara, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, high school musical hahaha (everything really)

What are you listening to at the moment that we should check out?

Costas: I really love the new Hot Mulligan singles and I am stoked for that record. The new Fall Out Boy record is absolutely incredible. Better Lovers just released a debut single and it’s so damn brutal and good. I really like the new Paramore record.

Nikki: heavy on the heart!

What one song instantly makes you smile when you hear it?

Costas: So many songs and records do this to me, haha. It would be hard to pick just one.

Nikki: Happy- Pharrell Williams

What is your guilty pleasure?

Costas: I absolutely love Britney Spears, Celine Dion, LeAnn Rimes and I am a huge country music fan.

What album do you always listen to all the way through?

Costas: I listen to almost every record all the way through at least once or twice. Some more recent albums I listen front to back are Fall Out Boy “So Much (for) Stardust”, Hot Mulligan “You’ll Be Fine”, Paramore “This Is Why”, The Dangerous Summer “Coming Home” and The Starting Line “Direction” has fallen back into my heavy play rotation lately.

Nikki: this is going to be terrible and I know it but I don’t listen to albums front to back. I need a change of pace, I always skip around.

What track would you like to cover?

Costas: We are actually working on incorporating covers into our headliner and longer sets. “Blinded” by Third Eye Blind, “Everywhere” by Michelle Branch, The King of the Hill theme song and “Gunpowder & Lead” by Miranda Lambert

Nikki: Everywhere- michelle branch

What track do you wish you had written?

Costas: Haha, this is a tricky one. So many good tracks I wish to have written. Honestly 3 records I could name that I wish I had written would be “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” by blink-182, “New Again” by Taking Back Sunday and “Out of the Vein” by Third Eye Blind.

Nikki: Any Shania Twain song honestly haha

Some great music choices in there, especially 'High School Musical!!'
